Tonsils also produce antibodies that fight infections. But Sometimes, the tonsils themselves get infected, resulting in a condition known as Tonsillitis. It is a painful condition that may accompany a very high fever. Infection of the tonsils can also result in earache, headache, hoarseness of voice and difficulty swallowing. In children, it may also be accompanied by nausea and vomiting.
